Oral Medicine Treatment / Biopsy

Oral medicine includes the diagnosis, treatment, management, and follow-up care for diseases of the oral cavity. Common conditions treated in our practice include oral lichen planus, benign mucous membrane pemphigoid, or pemphigus vulgaris which may present as generalized sensitivity, burning, or itching of the mouth. In addition, we commonly see patients with unusual lumps or bumps in their mouths, which may be aphthous ulcers (canker sores), viral lesions, allergies, or pre-malignant cancerous lesions.

Some lesions may require a biopsy, which is the removal of some or all of a piece of oral tissue in order for a pathologist to look at the tissue under a microscope to provide a definitive diagnosis.
