Sedation Dentistry

In order to alleviate your anxiety about dental treatment, we offer multiple options for sedation, including oral and intravenous (IV) methods. In our office, we utilize sedation methods that are safe and effective. Both of our periodontists have advanced anesthesia training in order to provide sedation services in our office. In addition, we have an on-staff Registered Nurse (RN) who assists in monitoring all sedation procedures.

Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide is an inhaled sedative which helps to ease feelings of nervous or anxiety. Commonly known as “laughing gas” or “happy gas,” nitrous oxide induces a carefree feeling to keep you relaxed during your dental procedure without all-day feelings of grogginess. Nitrous oxide is safe for children and adults.

Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is the use of a prescription pill taken by mouth prior to your appointment. Oral sedation keeps patients relaxed, comfortable, and sleepy during their dental treatment.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation: IV sedation involves the administration of medications directly into your bloodstream. Benefits of IV sedation include relaxation, reduced anxiety, sleeping, and a reduced gag reflex.

Any patient being provided oral or IV sedation in our office is required to have an escort. The escort or caregiver must remain in our office during sedation procedures, transport them to and from the office, as well as remain with them after sedation is complete.
